Power Inverters allow small electrical items to be operated from a 12VDC Source such as a car battery. 150Watt units and 300Watt units are available. To calculate the unit you require it is necessary to multiply the wattage of your trap by 2.5. This takes account of the Inductive loading of the light and Choke combination. Therefore a 125Watt trap will need to be powered via a 300Watt unit (125X2.5=312). A 150Watt unit can easily power a 15Watt actinic. To avoid draining the car battery it is advisable to keep the car engine running when supplying heavy loads. To work out how long a fully charged battery will last use the following formula: Battery size (Ah)/10 x W/12. For example if you have an 80Ah battery then a 15Watt actinic trap can be run for 10 hours.
